Unfortunately, there's a nugget of truth here.

It's not a bad thing that fully equipped Christians can go out into the secular world and filter what they get through a Christian Worldview filter.

That's actually what people like Gary Smalley, Josh McDowell, and Hank Hanigraaf are attempting to teach - know the good so well that you can detect the counterfeit. Be clean enough that you can tell when something smells.

What I take umbrage with here is the idea that 'evangelical Christians don't want to identify themselves as a coherent group embodying one set of values.'

I haven't detected that, but I've observed Christian music and literature moving into mainstream stores and channels. It was inevitable - sites like Amazon sell every kind of book imaginable. Stores like Walmart only stock what will sell in an area.

Here in the bible belt, Christian novels and bibles sell well. But I've noticed a pandemic trend to leave your bibles at home, because every church has the scripture on the big screen. Why lug a bible to church when they don't give you time to look the verses up? And they show it on the screen?

I'll admit, I can't get a large selection of Christian music at PopTunes or the Music Warehouse, but I can get practically any artist online, and the bestsellers are in all the music stores. And while I'm there I can get the other artists I like too; the ones who aren't 'Christian' but have no really anti-Christian lyrics.

Same goes for novels. And don't even ask about mags - I haven't bought any of those since college kids started knocking on my door to hard-sell subscriptions to SportsIllustrated or Womans Day.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01741255295792269043noreply@blogger.com
